This new video from J Dizzay out of North Battleford, Outta My Mind, was directed and produced by Young Native Productions.

J Dizzay has been getting it done in a prolific fashion in the short time he has been in the music scene. Releasing a couple tracks every few weeks, this guy keeps us busy with stuff to listen to.

Now he has stepped into the video world with this piece produced by Young Native Productions for this song called Outta My Mind.  Like his music, this video is colourful and energetic, and gives us a look at this North Battleford, Saskatchewan, rapper in action.

Be Okay is an alternative-folk-rock tune with a relaxed groove and a story to tell. From Battleford, SK, Cree artist J Dizzay released his debut album this summer and this track just yesterday. Hot off the DIY press of his home studio, J Dizzay remixed his rap with beats from Kid Ink and Cyndi Lauper's famous song. J Dizzay grew up in a musical family and cites influences from multiple genres in his own work - he was even a drummer in a country band - but it was discovering West Coast rap in the 90s that truly took hold of the young artist.  Simply put, he is bent on writing and recording what music moves him and, gratefully, he is moved to share it with the world. Artist Call: SaskMusic Aboriginal Music Week Showcase

Indigenous artists in Saskatchewan! SaskMusic is presenting a showcase at the Pyramid Café in Winnipeg MB as part of Aboriginal Music Week 2011. They are seeking submissions.

From Call for Submissions Aboriginal Music Week Showcase:

Artists will be selected by a peer assessment jury. We will be offering a travel/performance honorarium (exact amount to be determined at a later date but be advised it may not cover 100% of your costs).

To be considered you must:

  • Be of First Nation, Inuit, or Métis ancestry
  • Live in Saskatchewan
  • Have a current or upcoming professional release (demo / EP / full-length)
  • Have professional promotional material (photos, bio, website or MySpace)

For groups or duo’s: At least half of the band members are of First Nation, Inuit, or Métis ancestry.

If you would like to be considered for this opportunity please send an email to: Derek Bachman, derek@saskmusic.org and include the following:

  • Artist Name
  • Style of music
  • Number of people that would be performing
  • Contact info (artist, manager, and/or booking agent)
  • 2 MP3 songs representing your strongest material
  • Artist bio including any recent touring/performances

You may know Métis artist Andrea Menard as an actor, writer or singer. Indeed she is all three, finding critical success on each path, including a Western Canadian Music Award, three Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards and an Indian Summer Music Award. As a singer, Andrea is part crooner, part balladeer. She performs both jazz and roots/folk and sent us this track from the latter repertoire. From the album Sparkle, Evergreen, with rich harmonies and lush instrumentation, typifies her beautiful, narrative songwriting and her sweet crystal clear voice. Enjoy.
